# UK fuel prices

Use this skill when someone asks where to find cheap petrol or diesel in the UK, how much fuel costs in a town, or what the UK average fuel price is today.

All endpoints are free, need no key, return JSON and allow cross-origin requests. Prices are in pence per litre. Data refreshes twice a day; every station includes when each price was reported.

## 1. Turn a postcode into coordinates

`GET https://cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk/api/postcode/{postcode}`

Example: `/api/postcode/M11AE`. Use `result.latitude` and `result.longitude`. A 404 means the postcode doesn't exist.

## 2. Find stations near a point

`GET https://cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk/api/stations?lat={lat}&lon={lon}`

Each station has `name`, `brand`, `address`, `city`, `postcode`, `price` (for the requested fuel), `prices`, `updated` (ISO time each price was reported), `distance` (straight line, in `unit`) and `path`. Link people to `https://cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk` + `path` for the station page with directions.

## 3. UK averages and the cheapest stations nationally

`GET https://cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk/api/summary`

Returns `E10` and `B7` objects with `average`, `stations` and the five `cheapest` stations.

## Good practice

- Say when prices were reported (`updated`), and that forecourts report their own prices.
- Distances from the API are straight-line. For drive times, send people to `https://cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk/find?pc={postcode}`.

- Credit the data: contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
