About Cheapest Fuel
We show live petrol and diesel prices from every forecourt in the UK, so you can find the cheapest fuel near you before you set off.
Where the prices come from
Every UK forecourt has to report its pump prices to the government's Fuel Finder scheme. The government publishes that data openly, and we download it twice a day, in the late morning and late afternoon. Right now we're showing prices from 7,561 forecourts. They were last updated 17:30 today.
Each forecourt reports its own prices, and we show them as reported. Every price on the site says when it was reported, so you can see how recent it is.
How we check the data
Before a price appears on the site, it has to pass these checks:
- It's between 100p and 300p a litre, which filters out typing mistakes.
- It was reported in the last 30 days.
- The forecourt's location is inside the UK.
- The forecourt isn't a duplicate of another one at the same spot.
If a new download looks wrong, for example if half the forecourts suddenly disappear, we keep showing the last good data instead.
How we rank stations
Results are sorted only by price, distance or value. No forecourt pays to appear higher.
- Cheapest sorts by pump price.
- Best value adds the cost of the fuel you'd burn driving there and back to the cost of a 50-litre fill, at about 35 mpg. A cheaper station further away doesn't always save you money. Our guide Is it worth driving further for cheaper fuel? explains the maths.
- Nearest sorts by driving distance.
Driving distances and times come from OSRM, which uses OpenStreetMap data. If that service isn't available, we estimate from straight-line distance.
If a price looks wrong
Prices come straight from what each forecourt reports. If one looks out of date or wrong, the government's Fuel Finder service explains how to report it. You can also email us at hello@cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk and we'll check it.
