This page explains what information Cheapest Fuel (cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk) collects, why, and what you can do about it. If you have a question, or want us to change or delete your information, email hello@cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk.
Who is responsible for your information
Cheapest Fuel is responsible for the personal information described on this page. You can contact us at hello@cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk.
Price alert emails
When you sign up for price alerts, we store:
- your email address
- your postcode
- whether you chose petrol or diesel
- which page you signed up on, and when
We use these only to send the emails you asked for: alerts when fuel near your postcode gets cheaper, and a weekly list of the cheapest forecourts near you. We use your consent as the legal basis for this. We don't sell your information or share it with advertisers.
Every email includes a link to unsubscribe. You can also email us to be removed. When you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you, and we delete your details within 30 days.
Sign-ups are stored in a database run by Cloudflare, our hosting provider, in Western Europe. If we start using a separate email-sending service, we'll name it here first.
Your location
If you use Use my location, your browser asks your permission first. We use your location only to find forecourts near you. It goes into the page address so the results can be shared or refreshed. We don't save it, apart from the short-lived technical logs described below.
To work out driving distances and times, the finder sends your approximate location and the locations of nearby forecourts to OSRM, a free routing service based on OpenStreetMap.
When you search by postcode, we look up its location using postcodes.io. We don't store the postcodes you search.
Cookies and analytics
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track you across other websites.
If you choose Accept on our cookie message, we also use Google Analytics to see which pages people use and how they find the site. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) that last up to two years, and Google processes the information on our behalf. We don't send Google your postcode or location: they're removed from page addresses before anything is sent. We've turned off Google's advertising features.
If you choose Reject, or make no choice, Google Analytics doesn't load and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
We remember your choice in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again on every page.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting provider Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type. This keeps the site running and protects it from abuse. It's kept only for a short time.
Links to other sites
Directions links open Google Maps, and some pages link to gov.uk and other sites. Their own privacy policies apply once you're there.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. You can withdraw your consent to emails at any time. Email hello@cheapestfuelnearme.co.uk.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
