Budget 2026: did it reach the pumps?
The Budget is on 28 October. From then we'll track whether any change to fuel duty reaches the pumps, at every UK forecourt, by brand and supermarket. Figures updated 17:30 today.
Fuel duty is 52.95p a litre on both petrol and diesel until 31 December 2026. Under the current plan it rises to 55.95p on 1 January 2027 and 57.95p on 1 March 2027. With VAT on top, that would add about 3.6p a litre at the pump in January and another 2.4p in March: about £1.80 and then £1.20 more for a 50-litre fill. The Budget on 28 October is when the Chancellor confirms or changes that plan.
Today petrol averages 174.2p and diesel 199.2p across 7,552 UK forecourts.
